Noise
Most people living in urban areas who live close to each other will
at some time hear noise from their neighbours. In many cases the noise
is tolerable because it happens at a reasonable hour of the day, is
of short duration and is in many cases part of the give and take of
living near to people. Often, however, noise is a source of irritation
and stress to many people and this is where the Environmental Services
Department at St Albans District Council can help.

Making a Complaint
Unfortunately solving such a complaint often takes time, and it can
be weeks or sometimes many months before it is finally resolved. Discussing
the matter with your neighbour before involving the council can often
successfully resolve a problem. Neighbours often do not appreciate
they are being a nuisance and will alter their behaviour accordingly.
Once the council is involved any goodwill that there may have been
between neighbours will often be lost. It is often best, therefore,
to discuss the problem with your neighbour as soon as the noise becomes
a problem.
