Internet Chat Rooms
From an early age we are taught about the potential dangers
posed by some strangers and ways to avoid getting into harmful
situations. Unfortunately many children and teenagers do not use
the same caution when using the internet.
Chat Safe is a joint initiative launched between Thames
Valley Police and the Royal Air Force and is now being pioneered in
Hertfordshire.
The two forces have worked together to provide
an information pack about using chatrooms. The pack includes
a video starring Carol Vorderman, lesson plans for
teachers, a leaflet, poster and mousemat. A pack will be
sent to every one of the 80 senior/secondary schools in
the county.
Additional pages offer guidance for parents and guardians
to ensure their children are using the web safely and
guidance to children and teenagers about the way to become
web-wise.
There are also links to a number of organisations who
can offer help and advice. Remember though, if it is an
emergency dial 999.
