Fly-tipping
Over 1300 tonnes of illegally dumped waste was cleared in 2002/3.
The problem is increasing (already 800+ tonnes removed in first 6 months
of 2003/4), as waste disposal becomes more expensive. These fly-tips
include hazardous waste such as asbestos and special waste such as
tyres, both of which are expensive to collect and dispose of.
All fly-tipping of refuse is illegal whether it
is a small bag of garden rubbish to a lorry load of rubble. St Albans
City & District
Council is committed to taking legal action against anybody illegally
dumping rubbish.
If you witness anybody fly-tipping, please take
details of the persons and vehicles involved. Information such as
vehicle registration numbers
would be particularly useful in tracking down offenders. Please then
report this information to the Litter Enforcement Officer at St Albans
City & District Council on 01727 819428.
