Abandoned Vehicles

It is possible for St Albans City & District Council to remove and dispose of vehicles that are untaxed and in a state to suggest they have been abandoned.

They accept that such vehicles do cause a nuisance. However they are unable to take immediate action unless the vehicle is in a dangerous condition. The law requires that they must obtain details of the registered keeper and serve notice before they can arrange for removal.

St Albans City and District Council aims to “remove 100% of abandoned vehicles within 7 weeks of vehicle being reported”. It achieved a success rate of 99.4% in 2002/2003.
